Puffy Paint

We have had so many days out recently over the holidays, everyone was starting to feel a little weary.  The added wet weather this morning was the excuse that we needed to declare a 'stay at home day'!

The children played with toys that they haven't played with for a while as we haven't been in the house much.  A break in the rain allowed for a few hours of playing in the garden, then when the rain came again the children came inside and we made some puffy paint  - we mixed self raising flour and salt with some water to create a paste - then added food colour.

The children were intrigued with the paint - it wasn't puffy!  However after a few seconds in the microwave it came out all puffed up - how exciting!  After that there was no stopping them, lots of lovely puffy pictures were created!

The puffy paint was a great sensory experience for M who used his hands to squish the paint around the paper.  It was a great success, an activity that we will definitely be repeating.
