We have had lots of beautiful frosty mornings recently, the children have been excited by the twinkly white frosting everywhere. Last week I bought some new books which I hadn't added to our bookshelf yet, one of which is called Jack Frost so I decided that it was perfect timing to read our new book. It is a lovely story about a boy who makes friends with Jack Frost, and they spend all Winter together having lots of fun until the first snowdrops arrive in the Spring, when Jack Frost disappears in the wind, whispering that he will be back again next Winter to play again. The children loved the pictures and laughed at the story.
When we were playing out we wrote in the frost with our fingers, but our hands became cold which the pre-schoolers didn't like!
The children made sparkly frosty pictures, we chatted about the frost and everyone agreed that they hope it will be frosty again tomorrow soon - I am sure they won't be disappointed!
I'm not sure why, but on Thursday the three boys all seemed to have far too much energy to be cooped up in the house, they were running about the coffee table 'nee-nawing' like fire engines and being far too giddy - giving me a headache!!!
It was time to play outside in the back garden!
The children were drawn to the mud kitchen, however it was frozen! I managed to find a spoon that wasn't frozen and using that I levered the other utensils off the frozen table.
The top of the sandpit had a big frozen puddle on it, the children had great fun smashing the ice up, standing and slipping on it, and then cooking with it at the kitchen.
A big thick circle of ice was retrieved from the bird feeder, it was good to show J as we have been learning shapes this week.
After an hour the children had got rid of some of their energy (and it started raining) so we came inside and had a lovely hot chocolate!
Whilst walking to Starbrite, Albie was pretending to be an aeroplane! J decided he wanted to be an aeroplane also, so when we got back home we played out in the back garden. It was a beautiful and very frosty morning, the back garden has been out of bounds for a while as the grass has been too wet, but due to the frost the garden was hard and was great for playing on.
M went straight to the mud kitchen, however everything was frozen to the table and so it wasn't much fun!
J found a block of ice that fascinated him.
And then it was time to run about pretending to be an aeroplane!
This morning whilst on the school run it started snowing, the children were very excited! We tried to catch snowflakes and we tried to eat them too - they kept melting!
When we got home from school we made the most of the weather and we played outside. The children loved it and were very giddy! They ran around, shouting and laughing. I pointed out our (just about visible) footprints, and I showed them how we could draw in the snow.
I am hoping it snows lots more soon!
